Stafford Loans:

- The subsidized Federal Stafford Loan is based on financial need. The government pays the interest while you are in school.
- The unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan is not based on need but family income is a determining factor. You pay all the interest, although you can have the payments deferred until after graduation.
Parent PLUS/Grad PLUS Loans:

- Credit worthy parents of dependent undergraduate students and graduate/professional students can apply for this loan, which is not based on need.
Consolidation Loans:

- After your Federal Stafford loan 6-month grace period has ended, you will need to begin making payments on your student loan(s). Regardless of where you originally got your loan, you may be able to save by consolidating your loans with a fixed-rate Consolidation Loan at Oregonians Credit Union.
